Embrace the last days of summer! Blast off into space, give last year’s clothes a fashion makeover, and send a kite soaring

Go fly a kite

Aug. 25: Kites Over the Hudson Spend a day on the riverbank with the cool breeze in your hair — and in your kite. This popular end-of-summer event returns to Washington’s Headquarters; the first 150 guests under 16 receive a free kite. Prizes await those who can coax their kites higher than the rest, and for the crafty individual who brings the most creative flying apparatus. 2 p.m. • 84 Liberty St., Newburgh. 845-562-1195 or www.nysparks.com

Big time band

Aug. 7: Big Time Rush Nickelodeon’s boy band sensation is in the Valley for a summer tour.
