Events: Editor Polly’s Picks in July 2013

Senior Editor Polly Sparling lists her top event picks for July 2013

Masters at Work, the current exhibit at the Mark Gruber Gallery, highlights the landscape art of Ulster County painters Staats Fasoldt and Eric Angeloch. A watercolorist, Fasoldt’s Zen-like works are executed in soft hues and have an impressionistic quality. Angeloch takes more of a realist’s approach, with oil paintings that feature both warm and cool tones. Mon.-Sat., Sun. by appt. through July 6. Call for hours. • Mark Gruber Gallery. New Paltz Plaza, New Paltz. 845-255-1241 or www.markgrubergallery.com

hudson river days

The city of Kingston marks Hudson River Days — an annual celebration of the river and its watershed — with a full plate of events and activities. Front and center for the proceedings is the Hudson River Maritime Museum, which plays host to the Mathilda — an 1898 steam tugboat — as well as other historic and replica vessels. In addition, Hudson Rising, a festival showcasing the region’s many cultural and culinary attractions, is also in town. Attendees can participate in a 5K waterfront run, take a stab at stand-up paddleboarding, or scour the city for historical facts during the urban scavenger hunt. Live music, boat rides, art exhibits, books signings, a farm feast with locally sourced food and drink — all are on tap during this busy summer weekend. Visit http://hudsonriverdaysny.org or www.hudsonrising.com for complete information on these two related events.
