The Hudson Valley is no stranger to celebrity appearances. With notable names like Peter Dinklage, Paul Rudd, and Jeffrey Dean Morgan among the list of local inhabitants, it’s safe to say that the region has more than a few claims to fame.

Most recently, John Krasinski made waves when he settled upon the region as the setting for his Paramount Pictures film, A Quiet Place. To prepare for the flick’s debut on April 6, Krasinski and Emily Blunt, his wife and co-star, immersed themselves into production in the Hudson Valley, a move that lent a helping hand to the local economy in the process.

According to the Motion Picture Association of America, the production stimulated $21 million for the local economy. Although much of the filming occurred in Pawling, many other local towns felt a direct positive impact as well.

“Over 4000 rooms were rented in Poughkeepsie and Fishkill,” says Hudson Valley Film Commission representative Laurent Rejto. “[Film producers] also rented the farm where the house, barn, and silos are located [in Pawling]. They added a new metal silo upfield from the farm and doubled the size of the barn.”

Rejto adds, “The horse stables next to the arena were turned into offices for all the different departments and also for catering.”

In addition to working on the Pawling renovations, the film team also collaborated with New Paltz officials on scenes involving the Rail Trail Bridge, since the bridge itself was undergoing renovations at the time.

A Quiet Place may be about the power of a whisper, but the project itself resonates throughout the Hudson Valley.
