In the Hudson Valley, the holiday season brings with it many theater productions, and one show in the Capital Region is a can’t-miss event. Together with hosts Mickey and Minnie Mouse, audiences can experience the spectacle that is Disney on Ice this December 5-8 at Albany’s MVP Arena. Titled “Into the Magic,” the action-packed extravaganza offers fun for locals of all ages with an ensemble cast of characters that brings together six of Disney’s most beloved stories from the past and present.

Disney on Ice’s production of “Into the Magic” takes families on an expedition that travels across raging seas, snow-covered mountains, and the Marigold Bridge as the storyline features scenes inspired by Moana, Frozen, Coco, Beauty and the Beast, Tangled, and Cinderella. Along the way, other familiar faces from the Disney universe will join in on the ice to celebrate the magic of courage, love, and adventure.
“While the traditional stories appeal to older crowds, the modern ones are really exciting for our younger audience members,” says Hannah Shelly, a performer in “Into the Magic.” “The show is a medley of stories, so there’s really something for everyone.”

Throughout the show, engaging atmospheres allow audiences to further connect with the characters they love from the big screen. As Moana sets sail on a life-changing quest to save her island with help from demigod Maui, the ice floor transforms into a vast oceanic scape where Moana’s strength and determination take center stage. Then, when Miguel journeys across the Marigold Bridge to enter the mystical Land of the Dead, a vibrant and colorful performance lights up the arena with skeletons in a beautiful cultural celebration of family.
Along with single skating, families can enjoy pair skating in the Beauty and the Beast and Cinderella scenes as Belle shows what it means to be fearless with the Beast and Cinderella proves that grace is a winning attitude. Also, audiences can catch some above-the-ice action when Rapunzel swings into the spotlight during an amazing silks routine in which the princess and Flynn fly around on her long locks.

While audiences may have a favorite character they are looking forward to seeing on the ice, for Shelly, it’s hard to choose. “As an ensemble skater, I have the incredible luxury of being in numerous parts of the show,” she says, adding that some of her favorite parts involve hanging out with Olaf in Arendelle and lounging on the island of Motunui with Moana.
“Into the Magic” runs for seven performances this holiday season, with shows on December 5 at 7 p.m.; December 6 at 7 p.m.; December 7 at 11 a.m., 3 p.m., and 7 p.m.; and December 8 at 12 p.m. and 4 p.m. at Albany’s MVP Arena. Tickets can be purchased online or at the venue box office.
