Her work will be available both online and in the shop through March 1 for Black History Month. “I make pottery because it’s fun, because it’s beautiful, because it’s useful. Well-known ceramic forms and proportions are springboards from which I explore deviations that create subtle surprises in my functional work, bringing joy to the user in otherwise ordinary moments,” says Beckles.

6th Annual Sojourner Truth Life Walk
Dietz Stadium, Kingston
February 15, 11 a.m. – 4 p.m.
Now in its sixth year, the Annual Sojourner Truth Life Walk in Kingston meets at Dietz Stadium. Participants will be driven to Esopus Town Hall to hear speeches from local officials before embarking on the walk to hear spoken word about Sojourner Truth’s life. Some stops along the way include Jug Tavern, City Hall, and Old Dutch Church.
Those Who Served: The Enslaved and Paid Servants of Clermont

This Black History Month, Clermont State Historic Site recognizes its past with a special tour that recounts the lives of the enslaved and paid servants who worked at the destination. For nearly a century, the mansion was run by a mostly enslaved staff. While most of their stories were lost, recent research has revealed new details about that period in Clermont’s history.
