Have you ever been to a paint and sip night? The community-centric events are popping up right and left in the Hudson Valley — and for good reason. After all, where else can you unwind with friends and embrace your inner artist? (Ok, you could technically do this at home, but it’s not quite the same thing.) While the social perks are great — did we mention the wine? — the best part of the artistic evenings comes right when it’s time to depart. That’s when attendees get to take their one-of-a-kind, handcrafted works of art to display at home or gift to friends and family. Even after the night ends, the paintings serve as tangible reminders of good times and of the creative potential within all of us.
So round up your friends and grab a glass or two. Be warned, however. Once you paint and sip the first time, you’ll be well on your way to an artistic addiction.
As if paint and sip nights weren’t great enough, Canvas, Corks & Forks makes the experience even more memorable with — wait for it — a free mac and cheese bar. Whether you’re a painting pro or new to the craft, you’ll love the chance to laugh and loosen up with wine in hand and an easel at your side. Speaking of wine, both of the company’s locations up the ante with specialty drinks and wine by the glass. Whether you go for the Peachie Picasso with vodka and peach puree or the Monet-Rita, a citrussy spin on the staple margarita, you can’t go wrong with these paint nights upstate.
A traveling paint party, Colors to Canvas works a good cause component into its creative offerings. Founded by Cindy Ricks, the business was originally a way for her to raise money for cystic fibrosis. Now, Ricks has turned it into an on-the-road service that ventures to homes and businesses to spread art and good times throughout the Hudson Valley. For wine-filled festivities, the event host must provide the alcohol, while Ricks takes care of supplies and setup.
In the heart of Beacon, Eat.Paint.Love. is a mom-and-pop shop that works to make art accessible to the Dutchess County community. The artists who lead the workshop-style sessions are all local moms who have been with the business, which opened in 2013, for years. As for classes, Eat.Paint.Love. offers everything from date night sessions to ones designed with kids in mind. Pick a work of art that calls to you or close your eyes and sign up for a random class.
