Explore the Hudson Valley With These 5 Airbnb Experiences

When it comes to travel, there are two ways to go about it. First, you could play the tourist card and hop on a tour to take in the main sights and sounds. If you’re feeling slightly more daring, however, there’s always the option to step off the beaten path and explore the area’s hidden corners instead.

That’s where Airbnb Experiences comes into play. An extension of the popular hosting platform, Experiences offers travelers the chance to connect with locals and explore a region through an insider’s eyes. In the Hudson Valley, local experts offer visitors the chance to photograph the Catskills, wander across the area’s farmland, and even mountain bike through the Shawangunks. Not just one-off experiences, the programs give travelers the chance to delve into the heart of a region, learn new skills, and create lasting memories along the picturesque Hudson River.

Catskills Hiking and Photo Adventure

Hudson, $70

TLC obviously never visited Kaaterskill Falls before writing their hit song, “Waterfalls,” because these Catskills falls are definitely worth chasing. At 260 feet highKaaterskill Falls is one of the most popular hikes in the area and a rather short one for its height, making it easy for visitors to witness the beautiful two-tier waterfall. Bring your camera because Brian, the tour guide, knows all of the best places to snap Instagram-worthy pics and even provides a drone to capture impossible moments. Not only will leave this hike with an appreciation for nature, but you’ll also head home with some amazing shots too.

Walk the Land With  Farmer Mike

Hudson, $18

If you’ve ever wondered about the ins and outs of farm life, you can definitely learn a thing or two from Farmer Mike. While growing up on Meenahorna Farm in Ireland, Mike mastered his family’s tradition of raising animals in a humane and sustainable fashion. Now following in their footsteps, Mike opened The Fitzgerald’s Locust Hills Farm, his very own farm in the Hudson Valley, where he puts his knowledge to good use.

This experience is suitable for all ages and especially for those who love animals. Attendees can interact with goats, pigs, and cattle, all while learning about sustainable and ethical farming. Before departing, visitors can even purchase some of the fresh, organic meat that Farmer Mike sells to restaurants in the Hudson Valley.

Mountain Biking in the Majestic Gunks

New Paltz, $59

On this excursion, you’ll get a workout and adventure for the price of one. Prospective bikers should prepare for four hours of hardcore pedaling and climbing through steep trails that take them up and down the hidden corners of the Shawangunks. Not so sure about the fitness commitment?

We promise the breathtaking scenery and fresh air more than make up for the burning in your calves. Frank and Jenny, your tour guides, have been biking these mountains for 30 years and are experts at navigating the trails. They’ll take you to the beautiful Awosting Falls for your first pit stop, giving you a chance to catch your breath and snap perfect photographs. Near the finish line, take a break with a refreshing swim in Awosting Lake, then gear up to trek back across the mountainside before you head home.

Ski/Snowboard Hunter Mountain

Hunter, $40 (Lift tickets and rentals not included)

Hitting the slopes is a must when you visit the Hudson Valley in the winter. Whether you’re a first timer or a frequent skier or snowboarder, the one thing missing are some shots of you in action. This experience grants you access to a personal photographer/videographer and tour guide who knows her way around the mountain and shares tips on avoiding the crowd and making your time all the more worthwhile

 Make Perfume With Oils

Woodstock, $145

Are you on the hunt for a new perfume, but can’t seem to find a satisfying retail brand? The scent you are searching for may very well not exist…yet. With the help of Elena, a professional aromatherapist, you can create your dream perfume in mere hours. Not only will you be able to develop a unique smell, but you can craft a natural one as well. During the workshop, Elena works with attendees to determine which energies and oils define individual scents. At the end of the experience, you’ll be able to walk away with a oneofakind, personalized scent, which is what you deserve for a oneofa kind you.
