On Tuesday evening, Marist College welcomes three Aerie Real models and psychologist Dr. Stacy Williams, Ph.D. to the new Steel Plant Studios for a special panel discussion on unequal representation in the fashion industry. Throughout the course of the talk, the models will discuss their personal journeys to overcome diversity and succeed in the industry, while Dr. Williams will address the relationship between media and beauty ideals in society today. The panel is free and open to the Hudson Valley public.

I Love My Park Day

Yes, the wake-up time is early for this Saturday morning event. If you want to make the most of the day, however, use the I Love My Park Day clean-up as an excuse to finally visit the breathtaking grounds at Bannerman Castle. Coffee and donuts start the day for all who volunteer. After that, everyone gets to work to tidy up the island’s gardens and trails for the spring and summer seasons. If you go, make sure to pack your own garden gloves, water, and a snack before you leave the house.

 

Morning Birding Walk

Learn how to spot your favorite feathered friends at the Rockland Audubon Society’s weekend bird walk. Attendees can walk with local experts through the Stony Point Battlefield to look for neo-tropical birds on migration. Whether you’re a first-time birdwatcher or a bird-spotting pro, you’ll love the chance to explore a new area of the Hudson Valley and add a few new birdies to your “spotted” list.

12th Annual Beltane Festival

Palaia Vineyards, Highland Mills
May 4, 9 a.m. – 6 p.m.

Now in its 12th year, Brid’s Closet’s annual Beltane Festival takes over the grounds at Palaia Vineyards to honor the traditions of Beltane, a Gaelic springtime holiday, in the Hudson Valley. Throughout the day, the Cornwall metaphysical shop and the vineyards welcome over 60 vendors, plus a number of musicians, entertainers, and belly dancers. Come in your finest renaissance, pirate, or steampunk attire to celebrate the occasion and take part in the massive Maypole dance. Tickets are $20, and workshops are free for all attendees.

 

 

Bindy Bazaar Trails Opening

Bethel Woods Center for the Arts, Bethel
May 4, 11 a.m. – 5 p.m.

To complement its jam-packed summer lineup, Bethel unveils its newly refurbished Bindy Bazaar trails to the public. At the 1969 festival, the trail system was used as a walkway and marketplace for vendors. Nowadays, however, the grounds will be open to public exploration during the daytime hours. As part of the opening celebration, Bethel curators will lead informative walks, while local vendors will honor the spirit of the original marketplace. On top of that, a number of teaching artists will also be onsite for drawing instruction as well.

 

The Rewind: Back to the 80s

Poughkeepsie Tennis Club, Poughkeepsie

Break out the leg warmers! Dust off your cassette tapes! The 80s are back in the Hudson Valley…at least for one night. Hosted by the Leadership Dutchess Class of 2019, the retro fest takes over the Poughkeepsie Tennis Club on Saturday night for dancing, food, raffles, and 80s tunes from tribute band The Ronald Regans. Wear your finest throwback attire for a chance to score the top prize in the best dressed contest, then drop your ticket into the raffle for a chance to see Billy Joel rock the house at Madison Square Garden.

 

 

Chatham’s 150th Birthday Celebration

In honor of the Village of Chatham’s 150th anniversary, PS21: Performing Spaces for the 21st Century invites locals to mark the major birthday with an special piano concert inside its black box theater. Musicians and music lovers alike will swoon over the crisp, clear tunes that sound from PS21’s newly acquired Steinway D Piano. As for who will perform, four talented Chatham players will lead attendees on a musical evening that touches upon everyone from Brahms and Bizet to Chopin and Fauré.

 

Wine Tasting With Kevin Zraly

Diamond Mills Hotel, Saugerties​

Is wine your cup of tea (so to speak)? Take a sip of top-rated reds and whites alongside Kevin Zraly, the Hudson Valley wine expert behind the best-selling Windows on the World Complete Wine Course, on Sunday at the Diamond Mills Hotel. Proceeds from the tasting, which features three reds and three whites, benefit Saugerties art center Opus 40, of which Zraly is a trustee. At the end of the session, attendees will walk away feeling like vino experts – just in time for outdoor party season, we might add.
