Ben Stiller Spotted Filming Showtime Series in the Hudson Valley

The Chappaqua resident was seen on set for ‘Escape from Dannemora,’ a new show directed by Stiller himself, in Rockland County.

Westchester local and famous actor Ben Stiller was recently seen in the Hudson Valley filming a new Showtime series. Escape from Dannemora, a new show directed by the Chappaqua resident himself, was filming in Montebello in Rockland County and will feature actors Benicio del Toro, Bonnie Hunt, Paul Dano, and Patricia Arquette.

The miniseries will focus on the real-life manhunt for murderers Richard Matt and David Sweat who escaped the Clinton Correctional Facility in Dannemora in 2015. The convicted killers dug their way out of prison with the help of prison worker Joyce Mitchell, who eventually backed out of the escape plan and left the pair without a getaway car. The manhunt ended in Matt’s death by the shot of a border patrol SWAT team and Sweat’s shooting and recapturing.

Del Toro is cast as Richard Matt and Dano as his literal partner in crime, David Sweat. Patricia Arquette will take on the role of Joyce Mitchell, and Hunt will play Catherine Leahy Scott, the New York State Inspector General who headed up the formal investigation of the escape.

Stiller plans to use several local roads throughout the Valley to capture the events of the 20-day manhunt. Production of the film even required a road sign on Route 9W to be temporarily removed around Cornwall in Orange County.
