A funky music fest in Hudson, a community cleanup in Newburgh, and more from this week’s picks for things to do around the Hudson Valley.

Dress for Success Clothing Drive

Hyde Park
April 22-29, 9 a.m. – 5 p.m.

Just in time for spring cleaning season, Senator Sue Serino partners with Dress for Success Dutchess County to collect clothing and accessories for women looking to enter the local workforce. Throughout the week, anyone can drop off donations to Serino’s Hyde Park office during the work day. Accepted items include tops, pants, suits, dresses, shoes, totes, jewelry, and accessories, and all will go directly to women who require professional clothing to thrive in work and life. If you’ve been meaning to clear out all those unworn suits and tops from your closet, now is the perfect time to do it!

Angry Orchard Arbor Day Give Away

Angry Orchard Cider House, Walden
April 26-28

Throughout the weekend, Angry Orchard celebrates the spirit of Arbor Day with an eco-friendly fest that does a little good for the planet. For the first 1,000 visitors who make a $5 purchase, Angry Orchard will give away one tree per transaction. The trees are first come, first served, so make sure to arrive early if you want a sapling for yourself. As for what type of seedlings to expect, lucky locals can take home — surprise, surprise — apple trees of their very own.

24-Hour Drone

Basilica Hudson, Hudson
April 27-28

A highly unique happening, 24-Hour Drone is a full-day ode to sound. The immersive event spans 24 hours and spotlights a talented roster of musicians and sound artists who experiment with sustaining tones over extended periods of time. Droners, or participants in the sound fest, are free to come and go as they please, although Basilica Hudson notes that only those who commit to spending the full day onsite can experience the purest, most authentic versions of the meditative ideals and communal awareness that are engrained into the festival.

Newburgh Community Cleanup

Safe Harbors on the Hudson, Newburgh
April 27, 8 a.m. – 12 p.m.

Keep the Earth Day vibes going strong at Saturday’s community cleanup program in Newburgh. Hosted by Safe Harbors of the Hudson in partnership with a number of local organizations, the event invites volunteers of all ages to come out to clean the streets, remove abandoned junk, and help Newburgh to shine this spring. Registration begins at 8 a.m., so show up early if you want to participate. After that, teams hit the streets to clean, then meet up for an herb gardening workshop at 10 a.m. and post-event refreshments at noon. If you want to make a whole day out of it, stick around for the fourth annual Newburgh Urban Farming Fair, which kicks off at the corner of Broadway and Grand Street at 12 p.m., right after the cleanup concludes.

Blooming Hill Farm Artisans Fair

Blooming Hill Farm, Monroe
April 27, 10 a.m. – 2 p.m.

Shop farm-to-table style this weekend at Blooming Hill’s picturesque artisan fair. If you’ve never been to the farm, prepare for beautiful views, live music, and local artisans galore. While you’re there, don’t forget to shop the organic farmers’ market and grab a bite to eat at Blooming Hill’s onsite café. P.S. If you’re looking for one-of-a-kind gifts for Mother’s or Father’s Day, this is the place to find them!

Inquiring Minds Poetry Reading Series

Inquiring Minds Bookstore, Saugerties
April 27, 6:30-8:30 p.m.

Embrace your inner wordsmith at the Inquiring Minds poetry series on Saturday evening. If you’ve never been to the beautiful bookstore, stop by to browse the literature and listen to artful words by talented poets at the readings and open mic. Feeling inspired? Make a return trip to Emerge Gallery in town for the Arts & Words poetry reading on Sunday. Both events are part of the programming for April’s National Poetry Month festivities in the Village of Saugerties, which also offered various readings, workshops, and sharing sessions throughout the month.

Bruce Hornsby & the Noisemakers

UPAC, Kingston
April 27, 8 p.m.

On Saturday night, three-time Grammy winner Bruce Hornsby takes the stage at UPAC for a dynamic, exciting performance that transcends the ages. The multitalented performer, songwriter, and pianist — and former member of the Grateful Dead — brings his signature fusion of rock, bluegrass, and jazz to the Hudson Valley to celebrate his 21st album, Absolute Zero, which hit stores earlier in April. We can’t promise anything, but, if we’re lucky, Hornsby may treat the audience to classics like “Mandolin Rain” or “The Way it Is” to complement his new tunes.
