The owners of Bartlett House in Ghent — known for its scrumptious baked goods and fresh, veggie-focused fare — have a new Columbia County escape. The Maker, on Warren Street in Hudson, offers the experience of an eclectic café and lounge, with a restaurant opening later this summer and lodging to open in the fall.
Lev Glazman, Damien Janowicz, and Alina Roytberg have designed the space carefully, searching far and wide for “just right” pieces that mirror their travels throughout the Hudson Valley and the world. What they could not find, they made themselves, perfecting their visitors’ experience.
“Everyone is a maker of some sort,” says Janowicz, “and the Hudson Valley is full of artisans, farmers, thinkers, you name it.”
With all the makings for a cozy stay, The Maker comes fully equipped with an extensive cocktail list and delectable eats. Lounge visitors will be encouraged to pay homage to the writers who found refuge in the Hudson Valley long ago, while they indulge in drinks such as “The Sun Also Rises” or “Terra Nostra,” accompanied by a scrumptious cheeseburger covered in Adirondack cheddar and served on a toasted Bartlett House English muffin.
For those looking for a quick bite, the café receives patrons with a smorgasbord of Bartlett House bread and pastries and a selection of artisan roasted coffees and herbal teas (all teas served here are custom blended and organic). The café offers the perfect pick-me-up: a Signature Spritz, Bellini, or bubbly of your choice.
Executive Chef Michael Poiarkoff
The introduction of their restaurant will reflect the palette of local purveyors. Hailing from Pittsburgh with an additional 10 years of experience in Brooklyn, Executive Chef Michael Poiarkoff has created a contemporary American-style menu for the newest installation of the property.
“Visitors can expect something a little different at the cafe, lounge, and restaurant,” he says.
The restaurant will be providing dinner service when it opens this summer.
Poiarkoff has made it a priority on his days off to visit farms and get the lay of the land. “The restaurant is already unique through its design, but now we are going to introduce a menu of the best sourced products in the Valley.”
