A Place to Call Home: Greystone’s Staatsburg Residence

Consider the peace and comfort you feel when walking through the front door of your home. For the men living at Greystone’s Staatsburg residence, a home for men with autism and intellectual/developmental disabilities, this feeling is no different. Their house is more than just a structure; it’s a true home—a place of safety, joy, and stability

Founded in 1979, Greystone Programs, Inc. established the first group home in New York State for people with autism and has a long history of pioneering, compassionate, community-based care for individuals with intellectual/developmental disabilities.

Since those early days, Greystone has grown tremendously, offering life-enriching opportunities to more than 650 children, adults, and families across seven New York counties. Today, Greystone operates 17 homes, with each location thoughtfully designed to foster independence and dignity. The Staatsburg residence is a fundamental part of this network.

The Power of a Personalized Home

Everyone deserves a home that reflects who they are and feels welcoming—a place where they can truly be themselves. For individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities, having a stable, normal home environment is especially meaningful. Our space does more than provide physical comfort; it creates an uplifting and empowering atmosphere that honors their individuality. We believe that compassion, dedication, and understanding can significantly transform the lives of those we support. Our team of over 400 professionals offers various services, including residential programs, day habilitation, employment services, and applied behavior analysis, all tailored to meet each individual’s unique needs.

Home Improvements Promote Well-Being

As with any residence, the Staatsburg home needs regular updates to remain functional, comfortable, and safe. A well-maintained home enhances the residents’ dignity, allowing them to feel valued and supported. Studies have shown that higher satisfaction with housing arrangements can bring higher life satisfaction among adults with autism. Essential improvements, like exterior upkeep to the structure and modifying living spaces to suit residents’ changing needs, are critical to enhancing the quality of life for this community. These improvements help ensure Greystone’s residents have a personalized environment that meets their needs, helps them thrive, and makes them feel happy and safe.

Your Support Can Make All the Difference

Greystone Programs is a dedicated nonprofit organization committed to enriching the lives of children, adults, and families with autism and other developmental disabilities. Our mission is to provide exceptional support and services that foster independence, inclusion, and personal growth.

However, our efforts alone are not enough. Personalized care requires personalized commitments from individuals, elected officials, businesses, and other nonprofit organizations. By joining forces, we can create a more inclusive and supportive community that empowers individuals with disabilities to reach their full potential.

Your invite is not in the mail—it’s now! Your participation is the vital element we are missing. Together, we can build a community where everyone leads the lives they choose. Please donate today.
