How is Oakwood Friends School teaching students to think critically and inclusively?

For over 225 years Oakwood students have found strength in a diverse and inclusive community of learners. Oakwood students view the world through the experiences of classmates both local and from several countries, cultures, religions, orientations, and backgrounds. Students collaborate academically and are challenged to routinely step outside their comfort zone. When a math student discovers ceramics, a music major discovers basketball, or a philosophy student discovers the stage, they feed an intellectual curiosity and willingness to expand their thinking. Concepts of mindfulness and social emotional support within an academic setting are not new terms at Oakwood and have been central to our approach since 1796. We also have a lot of fun and prepare students for a breadth of colleges, universities, and careers. We look forward to connecting with you!

How has Our Lady of Lourdes continued to evolve?

Thanks to perseverance, determination, and the unrelenting support of an entire community, the north side of the Our Lady of Lourdes campus was transformed with a complete renovation of 7,000 square feet of existing space, completing the school’s long-term goal to provide a cutting-edge Health & Wellness Facility. The extensive renovation creates a new state-of-the-art facility that incorporates weight training machines, cardio equipment and strengthening spaces, and a multi-use space for performing arts and physical education programs. A new dance/yoga studio, new locker rooms, and a media classroom for PE classes and athletic teams were added as part of the school’s performing arts, physical education, and athletic components. As President Catherine Merryman notes, “I venture to state this center is unlike any of its kind in high schools in our region, servicing all students, not just athletes, further enriching our student experience.”
