Chef Wenda Gardner is the owner of Catering On Occasion in Hyde Park, home to the Culinary Institute of America (CIA). After 25 years in the insurance industry, working in the World Trade Center vicinity, September 11 brought drastic winds of change to her life. Southern cooking had always been a family tradition, however, when Chef Wenda decided to professionally hone her skills at the CIA, it required her to relocate from Brooklyn to Hyde Park. While at the CIA, she also completed her externship with Abigail Kirsch Catering. She later created her own establishment, CateringOnOccasion.com. The menu touts everything from the famous Southern Strawberry Punchbowl Cake to New Orleans Gumbo.
