Show your home some love this spring with trusted tips from Hudson Valley home pros.

It’s spring, the traditional time we’ve come to associate with renewal and rejuvenation, including refreshing your home. If you’re stumped for ideas or need assistance in bringing your vision to life, Hudson Valley home pros can help you transform your home into your very own personal retreat.

Increase your staycation comfort

According to UCE Fine Builders, “With all of the time at home during the COVID-19 shut down, we have seen an increase in our clients renovating all of their living spaces, including their patios and decks. Most are bringing the luxuries of vacation living to their own outdoor spaces and making their home even more enjoyable. Other clients who are building their dream home are including large outdoor living spaces, pools complete with a guest pool house, and expansive grill kitchens, so when life does return to normal, they’re ready to entertain.”

Deck out your home — indoors and out

Make the most of your outdoor space with a deck or patio and plan for your deck time to continue well into the fall. According to Williams Lumber & Home Centers, Trex believes that every home can extend beyond its threshold. They offer a variety of decking and railing collections, so that every family and every budget make the “Trex decision that’s right for you™.” The experts at Williams recommend Trex decking because it’s made with 95% recycled materials in the USA, has a 25-year limited residential and fade and stain warranties, and is low maintenance. Kim Williams, VP of Retail Operations at Williams Lumber & Home Centers, says, “This is a great time to build or rebuild your deck! Decks are a place to gather, entertain, or decompress. Expand your outdoor living space and turn it into your own paradise!” Williams Lumber is located in Rhinebeck, Hudson, Hopewell Junction, Tannersville, Red Hook, Pleasant Valley, and High Falls. For more information, call 845.876.WOOD(9663) or visit their website at williamslumber.com.

Create an outdoor oasis

If you’re considering adding a pool to your outdoor space, Chris NeJame of NeJame Pools suggests, “Make your pool part of your landscape, including connecting seamlessly with your outdoor kitchen. Take the colors of your garden and make them pop as part of the pool’s border tiles, for example. Also, be sure to have the shape fit into your landscape rather than protrude from it. Keep the look natural with stone steps or a fountain. NeJame’s experts will help you find the look that matches your personality.”

Outdoor spaces can also present specific, unique challenges. As Edith Katz, Creator/Designer of Beauty Despite the Beast explains, “Outdoor spaces and especially gardens are more important than ever as we spend time at home during the pandemic. Imagine creating and planting a garden, then watching it grow and mature. But, if browsing creatures, like deer, have dampened your enthusiasm, then check out deer-resistant gardens at Beauty Despite the Beast. Beautiful and alluring outdoor surroundings can be created in spite of the ‘beasts.’ Now is the ideal time to determine and develop a plan for the spaces you want to plant. DIY plans can be downloaded online from beautydespitethebeast or you can request custom consultations. March and April are perfect for ordering perennial plants and shrubs from online nurseries that we recommend and have them delivered to your door at the best planting time for your climate zone. Set them out this spring after the last frost and watch them flourish over the summer.”

Making outdoor improvements affordable

And when it comes to considering a loan to make home improvements, outdoors or indoors, Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union is a great resource. “You may have plans for your home that requires a considerable sum, and you may not necessarily want to tap into your home’s equity to finance them,” says Wayne Winkler, President & CEO of Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union. “A personal loan, which typically carries a lower interest rate than a credit card, might be an ideal solution for financing such big-ticket home improvements as upgrading appliances, installing a new roof, or even that pool you’ve always wanted. Keep in mind that if you’re considering several costly home projects or major renovations, a home equity product may be a good alternative. Consulting with your financial institution can help you determine which option is best for you.”
