It’s spring, the traditional time we’ve come to associate with renewal and rejuvenation, including refreshing your home. If you’re stumped for ideas or need help with executing your vision, not to worry. Hudson Valley home professionals are ready to help — sharing their expertise to transform your home into your very own personal retreat.

Deck out your home — indoors and out

Make the most of your outdoor space with a deck or patio and plan for your deck time to continue well into the fall. As Kim Williams, vice president of retail operations at Williams Lumber & Home Centers, says, “This is a great time to build or rebuild your deck! Decks can provide a perfect outdoor space for fitness and family as well as peaceful, quiet time for yourself. The experts at Williams recommend you use Trex Composite Decking. It’s fade, stain, scratch, and mold resistant, is made from 95% recycled material, and comes with a 25-year warranty. You’ll enjoy your beautiful deck for years to come!”  Williams Lumber is located in Rhinebeck, Hudson, Hopewell Junction, Tannersville, Red Hook, Pleasant Valley, High Falls, and Hyde Park.  For more information, call 845.876.WOOD (9663) or visit the company’s new website at WilliamsLumber.com.

Increase your outdoor comfort

An experienced representative from Central Hudson Gas & Electric Corp. explains, “Outdoor spaces receive an instant upgrade when connected to natural gas. In addition to affordably heating your home, natural gas can fuel your favorite outdoor appliances. Connect your BBQ, fire pit, patio heater, outdoor fireplace, torches, and pool heater for optimum comfort and convenience. Never again worry about needing a refill or having to make time to set up; natural gas is available when and where needed, without unsightly storage — and most appliances come to life with the simple flip of a switch! Clean and versatile, natural gas brings warmth to a home, inside and out.”

Create an outdoor oasis

At the height of the summer season, your outdoor living area will demand more of your attention. Jessi Lowry of N&S Supply in Fishkill sees that many people now think of their yard as an extension of their home. She says, “Adding a kitchen area, powder bath, or outdoor shower are being seen by consumers as practical, affordable luxuries outside. Bar sinks and food prep areas near your grill save time and aggravation by keeping you from running back and forth to the kitchen while entertaining. Having a shower area near the pool keeps your pool cleaner and more sanitary (it also keeps dripping bodies from traipsing through your hallways!). They can range anywhere from having a simple rinse station, to a full wet bath or cabana, complete with sink, toilet, and storage for towels.”

If you’re considering adding a pool to your outdoor space, Dennis Galderisi of SwimKing Pools & Spas, advises shopping before swimming pool schedules fill up. “It’s also very important to have an understanding of all the components that encompass new swimming pool construction,” says Galderisi. “Make sure you check with your local building department to make sure there are no special requirements or variances. Take the time to understand the different types of in-ground swimming pools — vinyl, gunite, and fiberglass and determine which will best suit your family’s needs. Not all pools are created equal. SwimKing, a family owned and operated business where all work is performed in-house, offers all of three types along with free site inspections. Call us today for your free in-home estimate.”

Making outdoor improvements affordable

And when it comes to considering a loan to make home improvements, outdoors or indoors, Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union is a great resource. “You may have plans for your home that requires a considerable sum, and you may not necessarily want to tap into your home’s equity to finance them,” says Wayne Winkler, President & CEO of Mid-Hudson Valley Federal Credit Union. “A personal loan, which typically carries a lower interest rate than a credit card, might be an ideal solution for financing such big-ticket home improvements as upgrading appliances, installing a new roof, or even that pool you’ve always wanted. Keep in mind that if you’re considering several costly home projects or major renovations, a home equity product may be a good alternative. Consulting with your financial institution can help you determine which option is best for you.”
