Curaleaf Provides Medical Cannabis, a Safer Alternative for Many Serious Ailments in the Hudson Valley

Did you know there is a safer alternative medicine for symptoms of chronic pain, PTSD, cancer, neuropathy and other serious diseases?

Curaleaf dispenses high-quality and affordable medical cannabis products as an alternative medical treatment for a wide variety of diseases and conditions. As a leading medical and wellness operator in the United States, Curaleaf has sites in 12 states, including 49 dispensaries.

One of New York State’s four Curaleaf dispensaries is located in the Town of Newburgh to serve Hudson Valley residents, and the company also operates a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Ravena.

The Newburgh dispensary is open seven days a week to all who desire an informational tour or a free personalized health consultation with a pharmacist. All Curaleaf dispensaries are managed by an on-site, New York State certified pharmacist for the purpose of helping patients find the right cannabis medication and the right dose for their needs.

Medical cannabis products may be picked up at the dispensary or delivered to qualified patients and caregivers who reside in Orange, Sullivan, Ulster, Dutchess, Putnam, Columbia, Delaware, Greene, Rockland, Albany, Rensselaer and Westchester counties.

Curaleaf believes there is an urgent need for more dispensaries in the State of New York. There are only 40 total medical cannabis dispensary locations licensed in New York state. “That’s one dispensary for half a million people,” comments Dr. Stacia Woodcock, PharmD, Curaleaf New York Assistant Director of Dispensary Operations. “Imagine that compared to filling a prescription at your local Walgreen’s store. That’s why it’s so important for us to offer access through our delivery service.”

Misconceptions and Reality

“There’s still a stigma surrounding cannabis, and a fair amount of misunderstanding,” says Dr. Woodcock. “Many people think that all cannabis medicines cause a psychotropic effect. It is simply not true. For most of our patients, the goal is the opposite. By working with one of our pharmacists, the goal is for our patients to have access to an effective medication that allows them to feel less medicated and more productive than with traditional medicines.”

Curaleaf educates regional practitioners about how they can incorporate cannabis into their practice and how to certify patients. Curaleaf also hosts patient and community outreach events and works with the chambers of commerce to provide educational panels to share information about the New York Medical Marijuana Program and the Curaleaf services and products available for the community and patients. Everyone interested in attending these events or getting more information is welcome to call Curaleaf at 833-470-5323.

“Curaleaf recently did an amazing event at Anthony’s Pier 9, which included a panel of medical and cannabis experts. We certified patients who qualified onsite and we provided information to local business leaders about our services and business,” says Dr. Woodcock. “It’s important for people to understand we offer a variety of dosage forms, including capsules, micro-tablets and tinctures, which are oral liquids which may be swallowed or administered sublingually.”

“And now, we just made available to our patients a very important form of administration,” she says. “For the first time in New York, we are offering an all-plant product through our Curaleaf Ground Flower Pods, a flower form of administration for vaping.” These pods contain high-quality, trimmed and cured cannabis plant with the strain’s natural terpenes. Curaleaf will also soon be dispensing medical cannabis in chewable tablets, as CuraChews.

“Medical cannabis is all dispensed as traditional medicine, and it is manufactured as a full spectrum, plant-based medication,” says Dr. Woodcock.

The Curaleaf dispensary is open every day to help patients and caregivers register with the New York State Department of Health. “This is especially for our elderly patients and caregivers, who may not be as tech savvy as our other patients,” Dr. Woodcock says. “People are welcome to visit Curaleaf to get more information and talk with our pharmacists.”

Obtaining a Recommendation for Medical Marijuana

“The biggest things that set Curaleaf apart are quality and affordability. We have an amazing manufacturing facility in Ravena, and our medications are derived from carefully selected and cultivated seedlings and then processed into the final products sold here in our dispensary,” says Dr. Woodcock. Curaleaf’s good manufacturing processes produce very affordable, high-quality medicine.

“Patient access is a huge issue, as medical cannabis is not yet covered by insurance here in New York State,” she adds. “However, state residents who are receiving Worker’s Compensation may be reimbursed through New York State funding sources.”

Patients can be certified to use medical cannabis in NYS if they suffer from one of the following:

• Cancer
• Chronic Pain
• PTSD
• ALS
• Epilepsy
• HIV/AIDS
• Huntington’s Disease
• Inflammatory Bowel Disease
• Multiple Sclerosis
• Neuropathy
• Opioid Prescription
• Parkinson’s Disease
• Spinal Cord Injury with Spasticity

The New York State Department of Health (NYSDOH) website offers additional information about how to become certified for medical marijuana treatment. “Medical cannabis is one of the most important all-natural health and wellness options available as an alternative to traditional prescription medications. Since the Hudson Valley is an epicenter for Lyme disease, chronic pain and neuropathy are among the big qualifiers in our region,” says Dr. Woodcock. “And, due to the rise in opioid-use disorder, medical cannabis is an all-natural alternative form of treatment that is really impactful for the community.”

Obtaining Medical Marijuana

Patients must have a qualifying condition to obtain medical marijuana in New York.

The first step for patients is to have a conversation with their primary care provider. If their practitioner is not a certified practitioner, patients should visit the NYSDOH website (which lists practitioners who are already certified) or call Curaleaf at 833-470-5323 for a referral.

The practitioner will issue a certification to the patient. “This certification serves as a prescription for medical cannabis, and the patient then uses the number on the certification to register with New York State to obtain a medical marijuana card,” says Dr. Woodcock. “The process is easy and can be completed within an hour, and a temporary card can be printed out and presented to us along with the certification from a qualified practitioner. Everyone is also welcome to come to Curaleaf and we’ll guide new patients through the entire process. Patients can come to our dispensary in Newburgh or place an order online for home delivery.”

Curaleaf has already helped more than 7,000 people at its Hudson Valley dispensary.
