Winter Sports: Columbia Land Conservancy’s Snowshoe Hikes, Upstate NY

Columbia Land Conservancy’s Spur of the Moment Snowshoe Treks mix fun and fitness

Looking for ways to exercise outdoors throughout the winter? Get your heart pumping with the Columbia Land Conservancy’s Spur of the Moment Snowshoe Treks. These impromptu two- to four-mile walks are organized when there’s fresh (and adequate) snow on the ground, but roads are clear for traveling. The rambles take place in Columbia County’s 10 public conservation areas, which include Round Ball Mountain in Ancram and Ooms Conservation Area at Sutherland Pond in Chatham. Participants receive an e-mail on the day of each hike, specifying the meeting place and time. CLC’s Education Coordinator Jenny Brinker leads the walks, which offer beautiful views and a perfect opportunity for bird-watching and the tracking of deer, fox, and other local wildlife. For more information and to sign up for the mailing list, visit http://clctrust.org/events/snowshoe or e-mail Brinker at jenny@clctrust.org
