Regarded as the highest form, a god of light in the Mahayana doctrine, this statue is the largest of its kind in the Western hemisphere. The 37-foot statue shares its home with the Buddhist Association of the United States.
The 225 acres of land on which the statue resides was donated to BAUS by Dr. C.T. Shen in 1989. His hope was that it would one day provide North American Buddhists with a place to worship.
The sacred locale translates to “Majestically Adorned,” referring to the adornment of the Buddha’s teachings. Today this Zen-like sanctuary serves as a community center for learning and activities, and offers guests the opportunity to view religious services and festivals. Visitors and worshipers can enjoy peaceful strolls around the Seven Jewels Lake, which represents the seven treasures of the Dharma, gardens, Chinese architecture, and 18 intricate statues of Arahants.
