If you’re not out of breath from hiking the three miles of scenic, winding trails that lead to the tower, you are welcome to trek up its 100 steps and peer through the tiny windows at its 295-foot summit. Locals and visiting explorers agree that the panorama is worth it; not only do you get a 360-degree lookout, but six states are visible on a clear day! A plaque hangs inside the tower that reads: “Erected in grateful memory of a man whose exalted character and useful life stand as a beautiful example to mankind.”
