Fall is my favorite season. The air is crisp and cool, the colorful leaves look like a painting, and on rainy days you can hide under a blanket while drinking hot cocoa and reading your favorite book. And best of all: it’s apple picking season. But dressing up for a chilly day outside can be challenging when you want to be chic. Here’s what to wear:
Embrace denim overalls
Trust me on this one. Apple picking involves dirt, drooling farm dogs, and rotten fruit, so sturdy denim is a great idea, and overalls are even better! I assure you they’ll look so cool with a little dirt on them. Choose a pair with lots of pockets for you to tuck your belongings in, and choose a thin cotton blouse to wear underneath.
Learn the science of layering
Bring a sweater if the sun decides to hide; if it’s a cold day, you might also want a cotton tank underneath. Military green or burnt orange are both hot hues, but be sure to choose colors that you can clean easily (i.e. they won’t get stained or show off fur and dirt) if an orchard doggie stops by for impromptu cuddles.
Bring sunglasses
If the sun does show up, you’d better be prepared for that, too. After all, you’re going to spend a lot of time looking up, so a pair of sunglasses will come in handy.
Wear comfortable footwear
The sneaker trend is still going strong, so throw on a pair of cool high tops because you can be sure you’ll do tons of walking. If it’s raining (or the ground is just wet), choose a pair of ankle rain boots and tuck in some thick socks.
Now you’re ready to go for a day of fun! Happy apple picking!
