Senior Games, Multiple Orange County Locations

Maybe you’re a lifelong runner, spend your Saturdays mini-golfing with the grandkids, or were motivated by last month’s Olympics. Whatever your level, whatever your sport, the Orange County Senior Games are sure to activate the region’s 55+ crowd  The two-week event kicked off this Wednesday with a nutrition-themed Price is Right-style playoff, but will extend until September 14 with events like archery and trap-shooting contests, scavenger hunts, bowling tournaments, horseback carriage rides, and many more.

 

Big Band Concert & Sunset Picnic, Garrison

Whether you’re there for Big Band Sound’s 20-piece orchestra, or simply looking forward to a scenic picnic on the quaint Boscobel House and Gardens grounds, you’ll be glad you came out to celebrate the last days of summer. The band will be swinging out ’50s style hits from Count Basie, Glenn Miller, Duke Ellington, and more. And if you feel like dancing, Wappingers Falls’ Fred Astaire Dance Studio will be there to get you jitterbugging and jiving.

Wings of Freedom Tour, Poughkeepsie

Bet you’ve never taken a flight like this out of Dutchess County Airport. Friday through Sunday, four of the most famous World War II bombers and fighter planes will be in town, available for viewing, ogling, and hands-on learning. Jump on board the restored B-17 Flying Fortress, B-24 Liberator, or B-25 Mitchell aircrafts for 30-minute flights and walk-through tours, or the world’s only full dual-control P-51C Mustang for the ultimate history lesson, training for a unique solo fly sesh.

 

Hudson Valley Craft Beer Week, Multiple Locations

Get ready for the biggest in brews at multiple events across the valley, September 9-18. This weekend, tap into opening night at Tarrytown’s The Oath Craft Beer Sanctuary, where more than 20 HVCBW exclusives will be pouring until 11 pm. Sour up on Saturday at an all-day beer bonanza, featuring samples of more 100 stellar sours. Didn’t think beer could get any better? Sunday’s Burgers & Beer Tailgate Fundraiser at Broken Bow Brewery will donate a portion of all football party proceeds to The Food Bank for Westchester. Grab a smock and get messy. Safe Harbors Ann Street Gallery is hosting a free paint event, inviting Picassos of all ages for an afternoon of creativity and community-wide collaboration. The gallery will supply all paint, brushes, and scribble surfaces, so all you need to bring is your imagination. Available for purchase are food and light refreshments, and if you’re lucky, you may even win a raffle prize.
