Flock to the Roundout’s fairy-light strung streets this Friday for an evening full of Parisian-style antiques, locally curated art, live music, and wholesome foodie finds. Open from 6-10 p.m., the market meanders through downtown Broadway in Kingston, featuring 20 vendors along Spring Street up to the waterfront. Can’t make it? The Night Market will be back on Sept.16 for its final stop of the season.
It’s a bird! It’s a plane! It’s the Haverstraw Air Show, celebrating the town’s 400th birthday with free food, displays, demos, flight simulators, and plenty of other aerial thrills. You’ll get a glimpse of large-scale electric models and real fixed-wing planes and helicopters, both new and vintage, plus the chance to fly a plane with on sight flight instructors. The seventh annual event kicks off on Saturday at 10 am at the Haverstraw Model Aerodrome.
Hudson Valley Ruins Exhibition
This photography and architecture exhibition features forgotten valley landmarks in a collection of photographs based on Robert Yasinsac and Thomas Rinaldi’s 2006 book, Hudson Valley Ruins: Forgotten Landmarks of an American Landscape. The New York State Museum show is divided into three river valley regions: Upper, middle and lower, encompassing the various historic estates, churches, hotels, mills, and train stations within each. Opening night is this Saturday, but Ruins will remain available for viewing until January 2018. Museum admission is free.
Sign up your petit Picasso for a free four-hour canvas painting class, courtesy of the Athens Cultural Center. Teens ages 11 to 19 are invited to gather at Riverfront Park for the chance to learn from a local landscape artist pro and create their own mini-masterpieces. All materials are included. Classes will continue weekly from noon to 4 pm through Sept. 18.
Round four of Kingston’s craziest summer bash has arrived with live performances by music mavens Big Mean Sound Machine, And the Kids, Mad Satta, and Hudson Valley Circus Arts. Be sure to stop by the beer and wine garden for select summer brews, and if you’re hungry, plenty of local food trucks have got you covered. The event goes from 4-11 pm, but if you have a serious case of dancing fever, head to BSP Kingston for the after-hours party, though that does command a $10 cover fee.
