Hope you’re all enjoying your extended weekend (provided you were fortunate enough to have off), and in a few days we’ll have our usual recommendations of what to do for the coming Friday-Sunday (sorry, no holidays to speak of in the offing). In the meanwhile, there are still a few days we have to contend with between now and then, so here’s a hat trick of events to help this abbreviated work week feel even more ephemeral.
TUESDAY
Eleanor Roosevelt’s Birthday Celebration, Hyde Park
Come celebrate what would be this former first lady’s 132nd birthday at her former Dutchess County home. Now a National Historic Site, “Val-Kill” is where Roosevelt continued her civil rights activism following her husband’s presidential service, championing the adoption of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights. Tuesday’s gathering will honor our late, famous neighbor with a wreath-laying ceremony. And it wouldn’t be a birthday party without cake, right? So come on down, grab a slice, and fill yourself up with some U.S. history.
WEDNESDAY
Color and Sip, Albany
Whether you border Picasso’s level of artistic prowess, or can barely manage to color within the lines, this bi-weekly event promises to be much more than just a night of coloring and conversation. Relax and grab a (non-alcoholic) drink, and get lost in your imagination. With the purchase of one ticket, you’ll receive your first soda (think blood orange, kiwi pineapple, or blue raspberry), one raffle ticket, and one coloring sheet.
THURSDAY
Hudson Valley Magazine’s Best of Hudson Valley Party, Poughkeepsie
You may call this a shameless plug, but we like to call it the best party of the year. Join us and our Best Of winners at The Poughkeepsie Grand Hotel for a night of phenomenal local food, wine and spirits, sweets, and dancing until your feet fall off. Our annual bash often tops well over 1,500 party guests, and we hope you’ll be one of them. See you there!
