While the classic black tux is always in style, with slim-fit silhouettes being especially popular, more grooms are choosing meticulously tailored suits, very often in blue, and this trend seems to appeal to grooms of all ages.
It’s getting hotter by the minute, with more couples booking artists to render their weddings on canvas. Artist Giselle Vidal McMenamin says she’s seen a dramatic increase in bookings, with weddings comprising 90 percent of her business, and Hudson Valley artist Janet Howard-Fatta says she gets several inquiries a week from couples. Most painters are on-site for the entire reception; prices run the gamut from a few hundred dollars to several thousand.
As couples look for less ostentatious but more personal and unique ways to celebrate their love, matching tattoos have become a thing. “We do a lot of matching bride-and-groom tattoos, mostly initials, rings, infinity signs, and names, or something that is special to both of them,” says Lucas Quinonez of Thicker Than Blood Tattoos in White Plains. “A lot of people get the king and queen or a lock and a key,” says Adam Kaplan of Big Joe & Sons Tattooing in White Plains. “Sometimes they get puzzle pieces, or they each get half of an ‘om’ symbol, so each completes the other’s om.”
Seems like just yesterday that wedding apps were a novelty. Today, there are scores and scores on the market, some free and many inexpensive, that do (or help with) everything from planning to budget tracking to vendor selection to guest-list prep to photo sharing. We really like Appy Couple, WeddingHappy, Veri, and Joy, among others. Another we love, the Glam App, has upped the ante when it comes to on-demand beauty services. The brainchild of actress/fashion tastemaker Cara Santana and celebrity stylist Joey Maalouf, this genius app lets you have your glam girls (or guys) at your beck and call. You can choose from a range of services, from makeup applications to a blowout to a mani and pedi or a variety of hair services. The stylists are skilled, the pricing is competitive, and you don’t even have to get out of your pajamas.
