Makeup Inspiration for Weddings in the Hudson Valley

Eyes & Brows

When it comes to bridal makeup, the eyes definitely have it, and now “eyes are all about lashes and neutral shadow, with a heavy crease and highlight,” says award-winning makeup artist Meredith Hayman of About F.A.C.E. in Yorktown Heights.  Brows are still bold but not drastically so. “Groomed brows and long lashes are always on trend,” Hayman says. “Long lashes are the perfect way for a more natural bride to add glamour without heavy or dark shadow and liner.” Lari Manz of Lari Manz Hair & Makeup in Hudson agrees that lashes are super-important, and she advises brides to go for a natural look, meaning “soft, smoky, natural-looking lash additions using like single lashes, no strips.” Manz likes a “filled-in brow” and says that the consensus about eyes and eyebrows among brides is: “‘I don’t want to look like Kim Kardashian.’”

Though matte foundations are very popular, Manz says that older brides “want to look dewy rather than matte” and recommends they use cream (not powder) foundations. She advises women of color to “avoid anything that has ash tones in it” and uses Jane Iredele foundations on brides with darker skin tones, since the line includes “shades from emery to ebony.” Cheeks, Hayman says, are contoured and matte, and “we are seeing pinky nudes and blood-red for fall.” Lips, too, according to Hayman, “are matte and lined to perfection.” Manz is seeing lips that are more matte than glossy, but if a bride does choose a glossy look, “it’s just gloss but no color.” More mature brides, she says, may want to skip the lipliner, which can be “hard-looking.”

Grooming the Groom

Skincare and makeup are not just for the bride. Many grooms and groomsmen are asking for complexion touch-ups. Usually, that means “covering a blemish, a shaving cut, or under-eye circles,” Hayman says. “I’ve taken shine down off some bald heads and added a hint of bronzer.” Manz also says that grooms and groomsmen often “want to even out their skin tones” with makeup. More men are indulging in facials and manicures, too.
