Ulster Spending Is Up; Here’s Why

We have six ideas as to why tourists have been flocking to the Mid-Valley county

For the sixth consecutive year, traveler spending in Ulster County has climbed up the commercial ladder, this time by $18 million from 2014 to 2015. The Division of Business Advocacy and Research at Empire State Development estimates county visitors spent $532.7 million in 2015 alone.

Here at Hudson Valley, we’re always keeping an eye on all the food, fun and festivities offered by our friends from New Paltz to Plattekill. So we figured that rather than consult any other “experts,” we’d shamelessly point you to destinations amid our own archives to remind you of why locals and visitors alike love to part with their consumer cash in Ulster.

  1. For one, it boasts the best brewery for miles.
  2. It also offers gorgeous hiking trails with tall, lush waterfalls and sprawling green parks.
  3. And let’s not forget about Ulster’s top-rated, farm-fresh, rustic restaurant staples like Gunk Haus and Henry’s Farm to Table.
  4. Not to mention, adventure is just around the corner via Ellenville’s signature Mountain Wings hang gliding service.
  5. Plus, once you’ve had your fill of ale at Bacchus (see first entry), no trip to Ulster is complete without drinking in your daily dose of culture, courtesy of a trip to historic Bethel in Sullivan County, the once-home of 1969’s Woodstock Festival and current site of an expansive music-and-art space.
  6. Lastly, there’s this. And who wouldn’t go out of their way for that?
