Situated on a sprawling 12-acre farm in the heart of the Catskill Mountains, this local getaway takes camping to a whole new level. Bask in the countryside serenity of a nearby lake, hike along the 6-mile rail trail path, or make new friends among the adorable farmyard bunnies, goats, and sheep (cuddling is encouraged). At the end of the day, you’ll return to modern comforts like high-speed Internet, hot-water showers, and an outdoor kitchen, complete with a fridge, sink, and grill (though the property’s communal fire pit roasts a perfectly hearty dinner). Inside, the dome is lined by a homey wood floor and screened windows, but the rest up to you. The space is BYOB (bring your own bed, that is), so be sure to pack an air mattress or sleeping bag — and of course, 16 of your closest buds.

Minimalist Thipi-Style Living in Bovina
At a GlancePrice: From $165 per night |
Only 16 ft. in diameter, this once-in-a-lifetime living experience is set on a 5-acre property in the heart of Bovina’s mystical roaming hills. Though tiny, the space is equipped with essentials like drinking water, matches, a wood-burning stove, and wool blankets from nearby Argyle Farms. And though cell service is practically non-existent, with amenities like an outdoor fire ring and a cedar-fired snorkel tub (upon request), you won’t even miss scrolling through Twitter. The space is part of an ongoing project to create a boutique hotel along the property, someday inclusive of multiple thipis, a common area, and a spa. Building onto this vision, owners Chris and Lisa recently added a second thipi, which at 20 ft. in diameter, offers a little more space to spread out.
