The White Barn Grace

Kennebunkport, Maine

A light rain started as we headed toward Kennebunkport and the White Barn Grace, a landmark in Maine for the past 150 years. Cheerful staffers with umbrellas at the ready rushed out to greet us and escort us to our rooms in May’s Cottage, adjacent to the main house. Fresh flowers, fruit, a split of Champagne, and fireplace filled with wood set the mood; the five star, five diamond cuisine in a rustic 1820s barn elevated it.

Explore: Hop on an old-fashioned trolley for a narrated tour of the quaint coastal town of Kennebunkport — including a stop at Walker’s Point, which overlooks the Bush compound.

Dine: When in Maine, choose lobster. And you can’t do any better than the White Barn’s lobster fettuccini, which has been on the menu for 20 years: succulent, buttery morsels of lobster on a bed of homemade pasta in a heady cognac sauce with the heads and tails neatly trimmed as part of the presentation. For breakfast? The lobster eggs Benedict, of course.
