Teen’s Truck Gets Star Treatment

Well-known faces in Orange County make a Maryland teen smile

Marshall Hill, a Maryland teen suffering from cancer, had an unusual dream. And with the help of the Orange County town of Walden and the Kids Wish Network — a program dedicated to granting wishes to children living with life-threatening illnesses — it came true.

Diagnosed in early 2008 with a serious brain tumor, 17-year-old Marshall wished that his 1992 Dodge Dakota truck could be given a face-lift. Vanessa Covolo, Marshall’s wish coordinator, enlisted the help of some well-known Waldenites — Nub of Nub Grafix, and Dickie Baxter and Levi Masker from People Hookin’ Up Cars — to ensure that the truck’s top-to-bottom restoration would exceed the teen’s wildest expectations.

On the day of the tricked-out truck’s unveiling, more than 100 people, including Walden Mayor Becky Pearson, gathered in the town to get a glimpse of the revamped vehicle.
The Kids Wish Network grants wishes to children between the ages of 3 and 18. To make a donation, or if you know a child who might qualify for their services, call 888-918-9004 or visit www.kidswishnetwork.org. “We have a lot of kids waiting for wishes,” says Covolo.
