For the first time in 100 years, visitors to Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz have the opportunity to stay in new accommodations. Grove Lodge opened on September 1, and earlier this week, Hudson Valley had the opportunity to tour the 7000-square-foot facility amid an opening celebration party that featured speakers including Tom Smiley, the resort’s VP and Director of Properties, and Eric Gullickson, VP and General Manager. Both expressed gratitude to those who helped bring Grove Lodge to fruition, as well as excitement for what the new addition has to offer and attract new visitors to the area.
“For 147 years, the Smiley family has been committed to conserving this unique natural environment along the Shawangunk Ridge and creating unforgettable experiences for our guests within it,” Gullickson said. “Grove Lodge exemplifies this perfectly—its secluded location is surrounded by ferns within a mature oak glen, yet is only a five-minute walk to our historic mountain house, which offers families an ideal home away from home that truly reflects the natural beauty of the Hudson Valley.”
Grove Lodge, which was designed by award-winning architect Andrew J. Allison and built using sustainable technology and materials, is located on the northeast side of the sprawling 1,200-acre property. It boasts six guest rooms, highlighted by a 1,080-square-foot Great Room. Each room includes custom-designed furniture from local craftsmen and artwork from local Hudson Valley artists, and visitors will get to experience sweeping cathedral ceilings in the Great Room, exposed wood beams, a private stone patio, fireplaces in each room, and other luxury amenities.
Guests will be able to book single rooms or the entire lodge (starting at $1,090 and $6,540, respectively) if they prefer. Upon arrival, visitors will be greeted with fun, locally sourced craft goods from Hudson Valley Chocolates, Catskill Distilling Company and Tuthilltown Spirits, and Brotherhood and Millbrook wineries. Meals and most resort activities are included in the nightly rate.
