The Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA) announced that East-of-Hudson Metro-North train service will be shut down entirely by noon today, although the MTA originally said that service would be running on a Sunday schedule earlier this morning.
In a statement, MTA President Joseph Giulietti cited “increasing winds and heavy snow accumulations” as the reason for Metro-North’s train service shutting down. NYC subway and Long Island Railroad services have also been cut back.
“Getting customers to their destination safely is our top priority,” said Giulietti, commenting the winds and snow accumulation will make it hard “to keep the third rail clear and power running smoothly for the entire day.”
West-of-Hudson service on the Port Jervis Line is currently operating on a weekend schedule; affected customers should check njtransit.com for updates. Long Island Rail Road continues to operate a reduced morning service. Above-ground service on the subway is currently suspended.
