How many days are local public districts allotted for emergency weather conditions this school year? What happens if they go unused or all of them get used up? Is remote learning a possibility? Below, we answer these snowy weather questions for several districts in the Mid-Hudson region.

Columbia and Dutchess County
Red Hook Central School District
For Red Hook, the school can have five emergency closings before having to make up days. Makeup days, if necessary, will occur in this order: May 23, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. If there are no emergency school closings, the first two giveback days are April 21, then May 27, with additional days being scheduled if necessary.
Webutuck Central School District
Six emergency days are included in the district calendar this year. If the school has to close more than those given days, April 14, April 15, April 16, and April 17 will be makeup days. If the days are not used, the following will be given off: May 23, April 21, April 22, April 23, April 11, May 27.
Dutchess County
Arlington Central School District
Four days are allocated for weather and emergency conditions. If they are all exhausted, the district will be in session as follows: May 23, April 21, April 14. If fewer than four are used, the following will be given back as days off: May 22, May 27.
Beacon City School District
In Beacon, the district has five emergency days. If more than five are used, the following days will be school days in this order: May 23, April 21, April 14, April 15, April 16. Days given back for unused snow days will be: May 27, April 22, May 22.
Dover Union Free School District
Five snow days are built in the calendar for the 2024-2025 school year. If these are all exhausted, the school will be in session on the following days in order: May 23, April 14, April 15, April 16, and April 17.
Hyde Park Central School District
Five snow days are included in the school calendar. If more than five are used, the following days will be makeup days: April 21, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. If the five days are not used, the following will be given as vacation days in this order: May 23, May 27, May 22, May 21, May 28.
Pine Plains Central School District
Five emergency days are given, with makeup days for more than five used falling on April 14, April 15, April 16, and April 17.
Poughkeepsie City School District
Five snow days are built into the school calendar for 2024-2025. If more than five days are needed, the following will be in-session school days: January 3, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. For unused days, the district will give back days as follows: May 27, April 21, May 23, May 28, June 6.
Rhinebeck Central School District
In the Rhinebeck Central School District, emergency days are built into the district calendar. If extra days are needed, May 23, followed by April 14, then April 15 will be in-session school days.
Spackenkill Union Free School District
There are six emergency days included in the school calendar. Makeup days will be May 23, April 21, April 14, April 15, April 16, and April 17 as needed.
Wappingers Central School District
Five emergency days are built into the calendar. If more than those are used, the school will be in session as follows: April 21, April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. If no days are used, they will be given back on April 22, May 23, May 22, May 27, and May 28.
Orange County
Cornwall Central School District
If number of snow days given are exceeded, Cornwall may pivot to remote instruction.
Goshen Central School District
If makeup days are necessary for going over the amount of given snow days, they will be on May 23, April 14, April 15, and April 16.
Newburgh Enlarged City School District
In Newburgh, four emergency days are built into the school year calendar. If the district exhausts all of the four snow days, additional days closed will be scheduled as needed toward the end of winter.
Tuxedo Union Free School District
If all emergency days on the calendar are used, makeup days will be April 14, April 15, and April 16.
Valley Central School District
The district is given seven snow days. If used, the first three do not have to be made up. The fourth through seventh snow days are “banked” in the school calendar and, if they are not used, they will be added onto vacation.
Warwick Valley Central School District
If all snow days are used, makeup days will be May 27, April 14, April 15, and April 16.
Sullivan County
Eldred Central School District
Seven snow days are given to the district. If four days have been used by February 1, President’s week break may become in-school days as needed.
Liberty Central School District
If all of the seven snow days have been used by February 13, February 14 will become an instruction day. If snow days go unused, May 23, May 22, and April 22 will be vacation days as needed.
Monticello Central School District
Nine emergency days are allotted to the district. If four days had been used by February 1, President’s Day may become a student day. Days will be given back as off in the following order if not all days are used: May 23, May 27, April 21.
Sullivan West Central School District
For the 2024-2025 school year, seven snow days are given. If all snow days are used by February 14, March 14 becomes a student day. Leftover snow days will be given back as non-instruction days on May 23, April 21, and April 11.
Rockland County
Clarkstown Central School District
Three snow days are built into the calendar for the year. If a fourth day is used, it will be made up on May 23, and the fifth day will be made up on April 21. If additional days are needed, April 17, April 16, and April 15 will become school days.
East Ramapo Central School District
One snow day is built into the district calendar. Most snow days will pivot to remote learning days. April 21 is designated as a school makeup day.
Nanuet Union Free School District
If schools are closed due to inclement weather, days used to make them up may include February 19-21. The superintendent will determine if any additional days may be needed.
North Rockland Central School District
Four emergency days are given to the school district. If additional days are needed for weather, the following will be instruction days if needed: April 21, April 14, April 15. If no snow days are used, the following will be off: May 23, May 22, May 27, April 22.
Nyack Public Schools
If no emergency days are used during the school year, school will be closed April 21 and May 27. If one emergency day is used, schools will be in session April 21. If two days are used, the calendar stands as is. If three emergency closing days are used before March 13, schools will be in session on March 14.
Pearl River School District
For the Pearl River School District, snow makeup days will be May 27 if one day is used, May 23 if two days are used, and April 21 if three days are used.
South Orangetown Central School District
The district has three snow days for the year. If none are used, April 21, April 22, and May 27 will be vacation days. If one day is used, May 27 will be in session. If two days are used, April 22 will be in session. If all days are used, the calendar is as it stands.
Suffern Central School District
May 22, May 23, and May 27 are built-in emergency days. However, if no emergency days are used, those days will be off days.
Ulster, Sullivan, and Orange County
Pine Bush Central School District
The school district is given four emergency days for this school year. If all the days are used for the year, a remote learning day may be scheduled in the event of having to close.
Ulster County
Highland Central School District
Seven emergency days are allocated for the Highland Central School District.
Kingston City School District
If all six snow days are used by the district, schools have the possibility of being in session on April 14, April 15, April 16, and April 21. If no snow days are used, April 22, April 23, April 24, April 25, May 22, and May 23 have the possibility of being days off.
Marlboro Central School District
In Marlboro, the schools are allotted five snow days for this school year. If those days are surpassed, they will be made up during spring recess, first with April 21, followed by April 14, then April 15.
New Paltz Central School District
Students and staff are allotted seven emergency days this school year. If those are exhausted, the days will be made up on these dates in the following order: April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. If days go unused, the following will be days off in this order: June 6, April 21, May 23, May 27.
Onteora Central School District
Seven emergency closing days are given for the year. If more than seven are used, makeup days will be as follows: April 14, April 15, April 16, April 17. Giveback days are May 23, May 27, April 21, May 22, June 6, June 9, and April 4.
Rondout Valley Central School District
The district is allocated five emergency closing days. Makeup days if these are surpassed are April 14 and April 15. Giveback days, if necessary, will be May 23, April 22, and May 22.
Saugerties Central School District
Six emergency days are given for the school year. Makeup days, if necessary, will be used in this order: March 21, April 21, April 14, April 15, April 16. If emergency days are not needed, the following days will be given back: April 22, May 23, May 22.
Wallkill Central School District
The Wallkill Central School District is allotted eight emergency days for the 2024-2025 school year. If days go unused, they will be added to spring recess or Memorial Day as to be determined. If the district surpasses the number of days, learning may pivot to being remote rather than closing for the day.
