Ed.: We can’t wait for warmer weather, so from now until the official start of spring (that’s March 20 — mark your calendars!), we’re delivering our top 15 signs of spring. Check www.hvmag.com daily for more posts.
Countdown to Spring (Day 3): Baseball, Baseball, Baseball
Can you hear the crack of the bats yet? You must, since MLB spring training is in full swing! Pitchers and catchers gathered last month (February 19 and 20 for the Mets and Yankees, respectively), and both teams played their first preseason games last week: the Bronx Bombers tied with the Phillies on March 3, while the Mets put on a great show against the Braves, winning 8-2.
Of course, locals can’t get enough of the Valley’s own Hudson Valley Renegades and Rockland Boulders. Although both the minor league affiliate of the Tampa Bay Rays and the independent Can-Am team don’t kick off their preseasons until well into the summer, we’re already looking forward to springtime events.

Tickets for the ’Gades games officially go on sale on “Super Saturday” (March 28 from 10 a.m.-1 p.m. at Dutchess Stadium in Fishkill). Bring the kids, because that’s the same day they host their annual Easter egg hunt for Little Rascal’s Kids Club Members. Eggs filled with gift certificates, candy, and other goodies will be strewn across the field; find more information here.
Across the river, Pomona is still buzzing from the Rockland Boulders’ impressive — and historic — Can-Am league championship victory. This was the first time in its history that the team made the playoffs, let alone competed in the championship. Congrats, boys! Game tickets go on sale on April 11; click here for more information on all of the team’s promotions.
