Built by brick baron James Garner (hence the home’s well-worn double-brick exterior), it was owned by theater set designer and actor Rollo Peters in the 20s. Once moving to Rockland County, Peters is said to have built homes for many famed friends within the NYC performing arts circle, including actor Burgess Meredith.
The following owners were fellow creatives: Bill Golden, who designed the recognized CBS logo, and wife Cipe Pineles, art director of several Condé Nast magazines, including Vogue, Seventeen, and Glamour, where she served as the first female art director of a large-scale American publication. The couple remodeled the home to suit their eclectic tastes, restoring its romantic touches and adding to the existing French charm.
