Rockland and Orange Are Two Fastest-Growing Counties in New York, Census Reports

The U.S. Census Bureau named two Valley counties as the fastest-growing in the state

In a report issued on March 26, 2015, the U.S. Census Bureau reported that Rockland and Orange Counties are the two fastest-growing counties in New York State.

Rockland County saw a population increase of 0.89 percent over the last year. Orange County followed close behind with 0.81 percent growth.

The Bureau analyzed all population growth that occurred in New York between July 1, 2013 and July 1, 2014. The information is based on a variety of factors, including annual population estimates, county equivalents, and metropolitan statistical areas.

A more detailed breakdown of the methodology involved in determining population change — including as births, deaths, and migrations — are available on the Bureau’s Web site.

Of course, it’s no wonder more people are settling down in Rockland and Orange counties; both areas boast some of the Valley’s most charming river towns, including Cornwall-on-Hudson, Haverstraw, Highland Falls — and yes, even the infamous Newburgh.
