Last month, the land preservation organization Scenic Hudson released The Hudson River: A Great American Treasure, a collection of more than 150 wide-format, panoramic photos showcasing the river’s spectacular landscape. Photographer Greg Miller, who shot every image in the book, crisscrossed the river’s 315 miles to capture the Valley at different times of day and in all types of weather. That meant camping out on the Catskill Escarpment in the rain, and leaving his Monroe home at 3 a.m. a dozen times to catch the George Washington Bridge just before dawn.
No two shots of the river are alike, Miller says. “The light is different here every day. Whatever you see right now, you’re not going to see again.”
The Hudson River: A Great American Treasure (Rizzoli, $50) is available on amazon.com and in local bookstores.
