Play Disc Golf and See Live Music at This Local Music Fest

As summer weather rolls in, so do music festival announcements and their much-anticipated performance lineups. Looking to kick off festival season the right way is Rensselaer’s own Disc Jam Music Festival, coming to town this weekend with an impressive lineup of both locally- and nationally-regarded artists.

In it’s seventh year, the intimate festival will be held at Gardner’s Farm in Stephentown from Thursday, June 8, to Sunday, June 11. And with more than 50 acts, including the New Paltz-based The Other Brothers, nine-piece funk-fueled ensemble Turkuaz, and the Albany-native multi-genre outfit Mister F, Disc Jam’s lineup is not something to brush off.

While the jam band juggernaut Dopapod will be holding down the main stage Friday night, and Pink Talking Phish rocking the house with their fusion of Pink Floyd, The Talking Heads and Phish on Sunday, a host of smaller groups will undoubtedly keep the party alive during the daytime, as well as a bevy of late night sets to fuel hardcore revelers throughout the night. For those who dabble in the electronic scene, an exciting array of DJs, including bass-heavy players like Yheti, Esseks, and Tsimba, will be spinning throughout the weekend.

Last year, Disc Jam brought in nearly 4,000 festival-goers, and this year’s new location should bring in a more impressive crowd. To complement the music, Disc Jam has also curated a host of art installations, yoga sessions, as well as fire dancers and performers. And as the name suggests, there will be plenty of disc golf to be played all three days.

Each year, Disc Jam builds it’s reputation as a solid and intimate local experience, and with this year’s lineup bringing something for every breed of music lover, it seems they will be maintaining that reputation once again.
