Let’s Go Fly A Kite
May 14: Kite Festival Spend the day outdoors with a kite in your hand and the wind in your hair. Part of the Yonkers Arts Weekend, this annual fest celebrates the artistry of creating and flying kites. Members of the club Kites in Motion judge the kite contests, which include highest angle kite, 50-yard dash, and finding the most unusual kite. Indoors, both kids and adults alike can make their own newspaper airworthy creations. Food trucks serve munchies all day and musical performances keep the atmosphere lively. 12 p.m. Free admission. Hip Hop ’Til You Drop
May 19: Hip Hop Theater Seventy-five sixth grade dancers — many of whom hail from the Poughkeepsie area — put on a performance that’s not likely to be forgotten. Following an intensive two-week workshop with Baba Israel and Yako 440, the students present all they have learned on the stage in a high-energy show. Part of the Bardavon’s Arts-in-Education program since 2006, Hip Hop Theater provides children from inner-city and underprivileged neighborhoods an opportunity to study music and dance while also nurturing their own creativity. 7 p.m. $6.
