Photography & Videography

Staged, cliché wedding pictures have given way to more natural, imaginative, customized photos. Photography packages now usually include shooting the ceremony and reception, as well as the rehearsal dinner and the post-wedding brunch. Ultra-popular “Trash the Dress” photo sessions have entered a new era, too, having morphed from the standard holding-hands-while-jumping-in-a-lake shots to artful underwater photography, with shoots in spectacular natural settings, like cenotes, as well as more creative “destructiveness”, using mud, glitter, graffiti, feathers, and leaves.

Aerial Photography “Drone footage allows us to get a sweeping overhead bird’s-eye view of the events,” says  David Schneider, co-owner with his wife, Danielle, of DFP (Dideo Films Photography) in Tarrytown. “Until recently, drone and helicopter footage was the domain of only big-budget Hollywood movies,” Schneider says, but advances in technology and smaller aerial cameras make pro-quality aerial photos and videos possible and surprisingly affordable for everyone.

Cinematic Videography “Cinematic videography is hugely popular right now,” says James Anthony, president of Pure Platinum Party Photography in Tarrytown. “Brides have moved away from traditional videography and have flocked toward  cinematography because it’s made to look and feel like a movie trailer and is designed and edited to tell a story.” Unlike standard video, cinematic video may not be chronological and, because it’s shot with DSLR cameras and generally requires “more than one videographer and more post-production editing,” it’s also more expensive. Schneider says that “combining photography and cinematography into one fluid moment” is very popular.
