What to Do This Weekend: August 5-7, 2016

From music legends to Elizabethan fantasy, we’re offering you some of the Hudson Valley’s best over the next three days

Getting your first whiff of those freshly sharpened school pencils? Sense a fall chill in the air? Probably not just yet, but make no mistake, they’re on the way. Be sure to start off the final month of summer right with a few of our festival favorites, an eat-till-you-drop culinary crawl, or a much-welcomed two-for-one Chardonnay special.

War, Paramount Hudson Valley Theater, Peekskill

With a sound as transcendent and powerful as their name, War, a rare, lasting brand of cross-genre royalty, will be sharing a bit of their magic with us this Friday as they continue on with their 150-show cross-country tour. With monster hits like “Why Can’t We Be Friends,” “Spill the Wine,” and “Smile Happy,” the band has solidified their proclamations of being the “original Afro Cuban jazz rock blues band.” Tickets to Friday’s show range from $25 to $42.

New York Renaissance Faire, 600 Route 17A, Tuxedo Park

Indulge your inner Jon Snow during the opening weekend of Orange County’s 39th annual New York Renaissance Faire. Claim your seat at King Arthur’s Round Table (figuratively speaking) and feast on absurdly oversized medieval turkey legs, or follow along with Robin Hood’s epic, arduous battle with the Merry Band of Outlaws. From there, prove yourself a formidable warrior against the merciless Test O’ Strength or hop in a Dream Boat for an idyllic fairytale ride along the water. With adventure bustling around every corner, 2016 is sure to be the fair’s biggest and best year yet, with more exciting new features attendees can count on.

Midnight Madness Fridays, Nyack Pour House, Nyack

No surprise, the discounts at Pour House this weekend are insane! Kick back with their weekly 10 pm-12 am two-for-one special on all beer, wine, and mixed drink purchases, plus some stellar live music. Then, did somebody say mimosas? Keep the party going Saturday morning with a $22.99-29.99 bottomless brunch (with or without an entree), or whip out your dancing shoes for a non-stop ’90s party featuring Resident DJ Shant from 10 pm-4 am.
