What Hudson Valleyites Miss Most During Quarantine

Photos by Sabrina Sucato

From fairs and festivals to the simple joy of day trips and dinners with friends, there’s so much to love and long for in the Hudson Valley.

Oh, how we miss the Hudson Valley.

As Hudson Valley staffers, we’re a team of people who live and breathe the region and all it has to offer. Like our community of readers, we relish every chance to explore local hidden corners all the way from Albany to Westchester. We live for a good day trip, and we’re always down to try that new restaurant in town or wander our way around all those historic sites that dot their way along the Hudson River.

So, when New York went on pause at the end of March, we were more than a little devastated. Here’s what we’re missing most during the COVID-19 crisis.

There’s always something unique I just have to buy. Love this event.

This was the year I was finally going to be able to attend – as a Mother’s Day gift to myself.

Day Trips to Historic Sites

Last year I took the family to Washington’s Headquarters in Newburgh to celebrate Memorial Day. We were going to do that again and stop by Newburgh Flour Shop or Liberty Street Bistro for a bite.

Hiking for the Breathtaking Views

With social distancing in full effect and changes to park access, it’s not as simple just going on a hike with friends anymore. If there’s one thing the Hudson Valley has in excess, it’s gorgeous views.

Hudson Valley Shakespeare Festival

I was devastated when I found out the summer season was canceled. This is one of my favorite things to do in the Hudson Valley during the year.

Running Groups

Miss getting together with running buddies, catching up on things, and good laughs.

Anywhere! So many great outdoor spaces [like Barbaro and Charlotte’s in Millbrook, Lolita’s Pizza in Poughkeepsie, and along the Kingston waterfront].

Hudson Valley Restaurant Week

The pandemic hit Westchester and the Hudson Valley just as our spring event was about to begin. It’s a wonderful way to check out so many great restaurants.

Long Lines at Holy Cow

Waiting on the serpentine line outside the Red Hook ice cream shop is a rite of passage, and the scoops inside are always worth the wait.

In-Person Meetings

Having professional face-to-face client meetings. Video/telephone calls just don’t cut it.

Lingering at Adam’s Fairacre Farms

I could spend hours in their stores. Now, it’s just in and out as quick as possible.
