An Inside Look at Poughkeepsie’s Peaceful Protest for Social Justice

The “We Can’t Breathe” march stepped off from Harriet Tubman Park and made its way across the Mid-Hudson Bridge to raise awareness in the Hudson Valley.

Following in the footsteps of similar Hudson Valley protests in Albany, Beacon, Kingston, Monroe, New Paltz, and Nyack, Poughkeepsie’s Tuesday afternoon protest was named “We Can’t Breathe” to call to attention the deaths of George Floyd, Breonna Taylor, Eric Garner, and Ahmaud Arbery.

Thousands were estimated to be in attendance and, although tension was palpable during the event, the walk concluded peacefully. Hudson Valley photographers Ezekiel Jeremiah Duncan, Michael Polito, and Tyler Blodgett had cameras in hand during the protest. Scroll below to witness the emotional images from the Dutchess County march.
