There are many reasons to visit Warren Street in Hudson, and this thriving wood-fired pizzeria and small plate-focused southern Italian eatery is near the top of our list. The pizza menu here is divided into two sections: D.O.C. Pizza (a protected type of Neapolitan-style pizza certification known in Italy as Denominazione di Origine Controllata) and just Pizza, both styles served as 12-inch individual orders. The regular pizza items have more funky toppings like escarole, pine nuts, Vermont’s Maplebrook ricotta and honey on the Farmer’s pie, and all of Oak’s crusts are naturally leavened and leopard-spotted (due to the firing method), which lends a nice, smoky charred flavor. Park yourself at a spacious two-top lining the wall or the nine-seat pizza bar, and watch the flames in the open oven smolder right in front of you. An order of two pizzas to split is the perfect portion for a couple of adventurous eaters. And in the meantime, ask for a glass from the wine cubby or a local brew; you’re sure to have an evening escape worth the drive and/or babysitter.523 Warren Street; 518.671.6300; www.oakpizzanapoletana.comPHOTOS BY JD URBAN
