New York Fashion Week Runway Review: W118 by Walter Baker Spring 2013 — Loud Music, Loud Clothes

The Girl in the Check Scarf reviews the W118 by Walter Baker Spring 2013 runway show at New York Fashion Week

“Where is that loud music coming from?! Is that my show?”

Those were my exact thoughts upon walking into Lincon Center for the W118 by Walter Baker show this week. It turns out the impressively loud soundtrack was from the show, and the music fanatic within me got really excited. When I walked into the venue, I saw models dancing and bobbing their heads in sync with the music while wearing chic Skullcandy headphones in an array of sherbet hues. The collection itself carried almost every trend for spring 2013: lace, Ikat prints, print mixing, insane florals, candy colors, cut outs, color blocking, mirrored prints, crisp whites, pink, oranges and yellows, wide leg pants… the list goes on.

The collection mainly had two different stories to tell: one half featured beautiful clean cuts created in structured white material and paired with light-wash denim. The effect was very fresh. Mesh-like fabric was everywhere, and helped to create a few stunning looks when used on sleeves, skirts, and dresses. The other half of the collection did just the opposite: the prints were the design, and the simple cut of the clothing allowed the print to speak for itself. My favorite pieces from the collection were a blue ombre jacket and a white mesh jacket (not at all practical, but totally chic).
