Conde Nast Traveler named the Hudson Valley one of the best places to go in the United States and, honestly, we’re not surprised.

When it comes to what to do and where to go around the Hudson Valley, we like to think we’re the experts. But what about the rest of the United States? And furthermore, the whole wide world? Since its inception in 1987, Conde Nast Traveler has been a trusted resource for globetrotters, operating according to the motto, “Truth in Travel.”

So, you know when the publication says the Hudson Valley is one of the top places in the United States to visit, it’s the real deal. Yes, you heard that correctly: Conde Nast Traveler just released its roundup of “The 23 Best Places to Go in the U.S. in 2023,” and our beloved region is among those lauded. In that article, the Hudson Valley is listed along with locales like California’s Central Coast, the Virgin Islands, Alaska, and the Everglades.

The Traveler notes the “burst of hospitality openings over the last decade,” our “reputation for its excellent culinary and shopping scenes,” and our newfound status as a “bonafide wellness destination,” thanks in part to such getaways as Wildflower Farms in Gardiner and Mohonk Mountain House in New Paltz.

The high praise isn’t limited to luxury getaway destinations; our culinary excellence is well-represented by the Kingston-based Japanese restaurant, Izakaya Makishi, as well as Chleo, a wine bar we profiled in our September issue. Conde Nast Traveler concludes its blurb about the Hudson Valley by highlighting Magic Hill Mercantile—the “furniture and décor emporium” with storefronts in Hudson and Kingston—along with Finch, a go-to for vintage wares on Warren Street.

This recognition comes on the heels of nods from other major publications. In October, Architectural Digest—another Conde Nast publication—named Rhinebeck and Cold Spring two of “The Most Beautiful Towns in America.” Even earlier this year, the Hudson eatery Café Mutton was celebrated by Bon Appétit and the New York Times as one of the top places to eat in 2022. With so much to do and see in the Hudson Valley, it’s no surprise we’re turning heads.
