Hillary Clinton Joins Sean Patrick Maloney on Campaign Trail

With a focus on gender equality, Maloney and Clinton are opening up the doors to the public

New York’s 18th Congressional District’s Rep. (and Cold spring resident) Sean Patrick Maloney (D) will be joined by former First Lady, Senator, and Secretary of State (and current Chappaqua resident) Hillary Rodham Clinton at a “Women for Maloney Event” in Somers later this month.

The event, which will focus on topics such as wage equality and local economic growth, will be open to the public and held on October 27 at the Pinnacle at Heritage Hills in Somers. Scheduled to start at 10:30 a.m., tickets for the event are free and will be distributed at a first come first serve basis at Maloney’s campaign offices in Poughkeepsie, Newburgh, Middletown, Brewster, and Beacon on October 24 and 25.

“For more than two decades, I’ve seen Hillary in action fighting for middle class families,” said Maloney in a statement. “But our fight isn’t over against the Tea Party crowd who wants to destroy opportunities for women by defunding Planned Parenthood, privatizing Social Security and opposing equal pay for equal work.”

Maloney, who served as a senior advisor under President Bill Clinton, has been vocal in his opposition to the Tea Party branch of the Republican party — a mission statement on his website says it is Maloney’s goal “to do what the Tea Party won’t — grow our economy, create jobs, protect Social Security, and strengthen the middle class.”

Maloney is a freshman representative being challenged by former Republican Representative Nan Hayworth of Bedford, whom Maloney unseated in 2012. Maloney was endorsed by The Journal News on Thursday. Hayworth has the backing of the US Chamber of Commerce, which is currently running ads against Maloney that criticize the democrat for supporting President Barack Obama’s signature healthcare overhaul legislation. Independent candidate Scott Smith of Goshen is also in the race. The 18th district, which all three are running to represent, includes Orange and Putnam Counties, as well as parts of Dutchess and Westchester Counties.
