Two former Marist football stars will be pitting off against each other in the NFL for the first time in the school’s history. Miami Dolphins defensive end Terrence Fede (Marist ’13) and Jaguars place-kicker Jason Myers (’12) will face off in Jacksonville on Sunday, September 20 at 4:05 p.m.

“Once that whistle blows, we each have a job to do for our team,” says Myers. “But it’ll be fun to be on the field at the same time with him being on so many special teams as well. It’ll be back to being great friends once the clock goes down to zeroes.”
Myers played as kicker/punter for Marist from 2009 to 2012. He is currently in his first season with the Jaguars after playing for the Arizona Rattlers and San Jose SaberCats in the Arena Football League following his graduation. He received three Pioneer Football League (PFL) honorable mentions throughout his Marist career, was named PFL Special Teams Player of the Week (November 8, 2009), and ranked first for career points by a kicker. He also held the record for longest field goal in the program’s history (49 yards at Davidson, October 8, 2011).

Fede, a Nyack native, is making history, too — on the other end of the field. The first Marist player to be drafted by the NFL, he played in the Dolphins’ defensive line rotation as a rookie in 2014, and was featured on special teams — including the team that blocked a punt against Minnesota in Week 16, leading Miami to a 37-35 victory. His success should come as no surprise: during his senior year at Marist, he’d held the single-season and career record for sacks (13 and 30.5, respectively) and was named PFL Defensive Player of the Year and PFL Defensive Player of the Week (twice). He also led the team to a PFL co-championship.
“I’m going to work my hardest to block one of his kicks,” Fede says of his former teammate. “Once the game is over, we’ll be friends like we always have been. But we’re wearing different jerseys now, and we’re both working our hardest to help our team win.”

Marist is currently the only college in the PFL with any players in the NFL. “It is a historic day for Marist College and the football program,” says Red Foxes head coach Jim Parady. “[It] gives us a major boost with recruiting and recognition for the college.”
