Erin Prunty, DDS, was in college when she decided that she wanted to be a dentist; her career has been in overdrive ever since. She was only 24 when she graduated from dental school at SUNY Buffalo and went to work for another practice in Kingston before opening Taconic Dental in Hopewell Junction. “I wanted to practice dentistry my way. I believe in practicing conservative dentistry. Let’s not do something if you don’t have to. After all, you have to have your teeth for your whole life,” says Dr. Prunty who this year was honored by the Dutchess County Regional Chamber of Commerce as one of “Forty Under 40” hotshots.
At her brand spanking new office, all patients get digital X-rays. There is barely any radiation with these,” says Dr. Prunty, who is also involved in a slew of charitable organizations. But she credits her success to really listening to her patients. “Your dentist should be able to explain exactly what they are doing, and why you really need it,” she says.
