If you’ve ever felt nostalgic after watching Meatballs — or you simply miss how carefree you felt as a kid at summer camp — MAYfest is the festival for you.
This inaugural, two-day, three-night event — organized by the Catskill Chill Music Festival and Skybaby Yoga and Pilates Studio — celebrates music, art, and yoga (hence the “MAY”) at Cold Spring’s scenic Surprise Lake Campgrounds. And, as the name implies, there will be activities that suit everyone’s interests.
Friday night is all about the music, featuring performances from four different bands, including Hayley Jane and the Primates and Ryan Montbleau. Saturday is jam-packed with workshops for all ages: practice yoga (including stand-up paddleboard yoga and yoga for children and beginners); learn origami, calligraphy, and drawing; and enjoy storytelling with Jonathan Kruk (who we recently named one of our favorite local storytellers), a family dance party, and even a Pilates circle. Saturday evening’s musical performances include Sister Sparrow & the Dirty Birds. On Sunday, choose from a variety of workshops (painting, book-making, yoga), Dharma Sunday School, more storytelling, and guided hikes. Music from Funky Dawgz Brass Brand and DJ Drez will wrap up the weekend.

Attendees who want to experience the entire festival are invited to rent cabins, camp on-site (free!), or book rooms at any of the local hotels. (Festival organizers are providing a $25 shuttle service to many off-site accommodations.) Meal plans at the camp’s cafeteria and food vendors are also available; patrons are welcome to bring their own food, too.
